Welcome to Roads!

Roads and transport infrastructure play an ever increasing and important role in our national economy. Roading and transport professionals, technicians and other workers are in hot demand - especially those trained and/or with experience.

Further Education

There are a number of providers that offer courses in roading or transport, including:

NZIHT: New Zealand Institute of Highway Technology

NZIHT offers a number of excellent roading and transport-based courses at vocational, undergraduate, and graduate level. Based in New Plymouth, they have campuses in Hamilton and Christchurch, as well as offering a number of courses at venues around the country.

If it is a vocational, job-based, short-course, conference, or diploma with content from traffic control to RAMM to Contract Management and everything in-between, then NZIHT is a good bet.

University of Canterbury

Offers graduate and post-graduate courses in Transport and Pavement Technology including a Master of Engineering in Transportation. They also offer Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degrees with civil major that can lead to specialization in the transport field. Canterbury and Auckland have a long history (and recognition) of quality engineering programmes.

University of Auckland

Offers graduate and post-graduate courses in Transport and Pavement Technology. They also offer Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degrees with civil major that can lead to specialization in the transport field.

Futureintech

Futureintech provides guidance on engineering as a career as well as a searchable database of qualifications.

Other Players

Nearly every New Zealand Polytechnic, Institute of Technology, or University offer engineering programs recognized under the National Qualifications Framework. Contact your local institute to find out what is on offer. The careers website provides further guidance.

Learning at a Distance

The Open Polytechnic offers a Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree. NZIHT, Canterbury, and Auckland offer block courses or other distance modes. Other institutes may also offer distance learning - it pays to check.

Alternatively, there are a number of Australian Universities of high international repute that offer learning at a distance.
